PSKS in dire need of government assistance to realise a shelter facility for cancer patients – Julianah

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Cancer Volunteer Association (PSKS) hopes that the state government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will generously provide financial support to help fulfil its dream of establishing a shelter for cancer patients and their companions.

PSKS president Ms Julianah Kurutung stated that such accommodation is crucial for cancer patients and their companions from rural areas or other districts undergoing treatment.

“As the president of this association, my colleagues and I in PSKS have recognised the need for our organisation to have a shelter for patients.

“This is part of our vision to assist in advocating for the welfare of cancer patients,” she said in a statement today.

In this regard, Julianah urged the government, corporate companies, NGOs, and philanthropists to contribute financially to realise this noble vision.

She noted that many cancer patients and their companions from rural areas frequently come to receive treatment at the Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital, Likas (HWKKS), which also serves as a hospital for cancer patients and a government hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

“Therefore, the importance of this group should be given attention for the common good,” she said.

On January 1, 2023, Julianah mentioned that under the leadership initiative of PSKS, the association successfully rented a 5-room patient house in the King Fisher residential area near HWKKS at a rental cost of RM2,000 per month, with maintenance costs of RM3,800, including employee salaries and utilities.

“Thus, I sincerely hope that many will come forward to assist us financially, ensuring that the pure intentions of the association to purchase this rented house will become a reality,” she said.
