KOTA KINABALU: Against the backdrop of deepening global economic ties and expanding regional cooperation, Sabah businesses should broaden their international outlook, proactively strengthen connections with business communities in other countries, keep abreast of international market trends, and actively explore opportunities in trade, investment and industrial cooperation.
Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau said this today when he received a courtesy visit from H.E. Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia.
He said Bangladesh, with its large population and growing market, is an important South Asian economy with significant development potential. As economic and trade ties between Malaysia and Bangladesh continue to grow, Sabah businesses could also actively explore opportunities arising from these developments and further strengthen connections with Bangladeshi companies and business organisations.
“Through this exchange, we have not only enhanced our mutual understanding, but also gained a better understanding of each other’s industrial strengths, market needs and development directions.
“This creates favourable conditions for deeper economic, trade and business exchanges between Sabah and Bangladesh in the future.”
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on Malaysia-Bangladesh economic and trade relations, business exchanges and potential areas of future cooperation.
They also explored opportunities to establish stronger links and enhance interaction and collaboration between the business communities of Sabah and Bangladesh.
Datuk Dexter Lau said MCCC Sabah has been actively serving as a platform for business networking and exchanges.
Besides assisting its members in expanding their domestic markets, the chamber also encourages businesses to adopt a global outlook, establish cross-border business networks, and identify new markets and potential partners.
He said that as the international business environment continues to evolve, businesses can no longer rely solely on local markets to meet future growth needs.
It is therefore increasingly important for businesses to leverage chamber platforms to strengthen international engagement, stay informed of global market developments and explore more diversified forms of cooperation.
“We welcome diplomatic missions, business organisations and business representatives from different countries to maintain close engagement with MCCC Sabah. Where there are common interests and complementary strengths, there is an opportunity to turn exchanges into tangible trade, investment and industrial cooperation.”
He believed that through continuous communication and interaction, both sides could gradually establish closer business ties and identify opportunities at various levels, including trade, business matching, investment cooperation and industrial exchanges, thereby creating more opportunities for Sabah businesses to venture into international markets.
He also pointed out that Sabah has abundant resources and a diverse industrial base, with potential to further expand international cooperation in areas such as food and agricultural products, tourism, logistics, manufacturing and other sectors. More bilateral business exchange activities in the future could help identify and develop these potential areas of cooperation.
Also present at the meeting were MCCC Sabah Deputy President Kapitan Dr. Callee Tan Kai Lee, and Vice Presidents Jacky Chin and Louis Su. Representing the High Commission of Bangladesh in Malaysia were Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee, Counsellor (Political) and Head of Chancery, and Pranab Kumar Ghosh, First Secretary (Commercial).
