KUDAT: A total of 38 foreign nationals were apprehended by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sabah during several enforcement operations conducted recently in Kudat and Tawau.
The operations, which included Ops Sapu, Ops Mahir, Ops Selera, and Ops Gegar, were carried out to combat the presence of illegal immigrants (PATI) and to ensure compliance with the country’s immigration laws.
In Kudat, the Ops Mahir operation inspected 20 individuals, resulting in the detention of 15 foreign nationals from the Philippines, comprising three adult males, five adult females, four male children, and three female children.
All of them are suspected of committing various immigration offences, including lacking valid travel documents and violating visa conditions under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Meanwhile, in Tawau, the Ops Mahir, Ops Selera, and Ops Gegar operations examined 56 individuals before detaining 23 foreign nationals, which included 18 from the Philippines, four from Indonesia, and one male from India.
JIM Sabah stated that all individuals involved were detained on suspicion of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63.
According to the statement, enforcement operations will continue to be intensified from time to time to curb the influx of illegal immigrants in the state.
