Sabah and North Kalimantan media portals formalise cross-border MoU.

TAWAU: Media portals from Sabah, Malaysia, and North Kalimantan, Indonesia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation in the fields of media and communication between the two nations.

The collaboration involves Sabah News Today (SNT), Deasoka, and Dakwat Rakyat alongside the Indonesian media portal, Satukaltara.com, during a ceremony held at the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Tawau on Saturday.

Chief Executive Officer of Sabah News Today (SNT), Zakaria Damit, said that the signing of the MoU is not merely symbolic but represents the strong ties between two neighbouring countries that share a long history, culture, and friendship.

He noted that the media plays a crucial role in delivering accurate information, fostering public understanding, and enhancing international relations, especially in today’s digital era.

“Through this collaboration, we hope for increased information exchange, joint news coverage, tourism promotion, creative economy, and community development to be implemented collectively between Sabah and North Kalimantan,” he said in his speech at the event.

He added that the media not only serves as a news provider but also acts as a bridge connecting the people of both nations.

Furthermore, he expressed hope that this strategic cooperation would create opportunities for young media practitioners to share experiences, technology, and expertise in digital journalism and creative media.
