Subsidy for diesel aids the people of Sabah – Jamawi

TENOM: The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry of Sabah, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its decision to maintain the diesel subsidy in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said this move is highly significant given the high demand for diesel vehicles among the people in this state.

“We thank the Prime Minister for the wise decision to continue the diesel subsidy in Sabah and Sarawak.

“We understand that most people in Sabah use diesel vehicles, particularly four-wheel drives, due to geographical factors, the long distances between towns, and the road conditions that are not on par with those in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said when met by the media during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House celebration hosted by him and his wife at the Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom Hall here on Saturday.

In this regard, Jamawi hopes that the people in Peninsular Malaysia can understand the different needs in Sabah and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Jamawi advised the public to wisely utilize the fuel subsidy and avoid wastage.

“Let us make the best use of this facility. If there is a surplus, be frugal as it is important for the future. Do not waste,” he said.

As the Minister responsible for the agriculture and fisheries sector, he also reminded entrepreneurs to be more vigilant, especially during this hot season.

“We advise to avoid open burning as it can pose a fire risk and harm the environment,” he said.

He also informed that the ministry is working to assist small farmers who have not yet received the fuel subsidy.

“We have discussed with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to ensure that they can be registered and also enjoy the fuel subsidy for use in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors,” he added.
