KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government’s recent decision to honor Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and uphold Sabah’s constitutional rights marks a significant and commendable step towards justice, fairness, and constitutional integrity.

By choosing not to pursue an appeal concerning Sabah’s entitlement to a 40% revenue share, the government demonstrates a genuine commitment to respecting Sabah’s sovereignty and reinforcing the principles enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

This decisive move reflects the government’s recognition of Sabah’s legitimate rights as an equal partner within the Federation, recognizing that equitable development and broad-based national progress are only possible when the rights of all states are safeguarded and respected.

It also signifies a shift towards a more collaborative and respectful relationship between federal and state authorities, fostering mutual trust and cooperation.

Furthermore, the government’s willingness to engage in constructive negotiations with Sabah’s state leadership underscores its dedication to fostering a fair and inclusive Federal-State partnership.

Such efforts are vital in ensuring that Sabah’s unique needs and aspirations are prioritized, paving the way for sustainable development, stability, and unity across the nation.

This proactive approach not only affirms the government’s respect for Sabah’s sovereignty but also reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law and constitutional principles as the foundation of Malaysia’s national unity.

It sets a positive precedent for future federal-state relations, emphasizing transparency, respect, and justice.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership in this matter exemplifies his steadfast commitment to honoring Malaysia’s constitutional promises and reinforcing the rightful place of Sabah within our federation.

It is a significant step toward a more equitable, harmonious, and unified Malaysia.
