KOTA KINABALU: With just a few months remaining before the Sabah state election (PRN), the existing partnership between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan (BN-PH) should focus on the narrative of ‘Suka Sama Rakyat’ (People’s Preference) rather than merely ‘Suka Sama Suka’ (personal political gains).
Sabah BN Treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said that the mission of the BN-PH coalition should reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of Sabah, rather than being driven solely by political convenience.
“Any political alliance must prioritise the interests of the people over personal or political gains,” he remarked.
He noted that discussions are ongoing to ensure that BN-PH and local partners collaborate for economic growth, infrastructure development, and better opportunities in Sabah.
The former Chief Minister affirmed that BN Sabah will continue its partnership with PH allies in the upcoming state election, in line with their collaboration at the federal level.
He reiterated BN Sabah’s commitment to political stability and governance for the benefit of the people of Sabah.
This position has been publicly expressed by Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno Sabah Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
“At the same time, we recognise the importance of engaging with local parties to ensure a strong and united coalition in the state,” he added.
Last November, Zahid, who is also the BN chairman, announced that his coalition would form a core partnership with PH for the Sabah state election.
This collaboration is also open to other coalitions and parties.
It was followed by an informal meeting of BN and PH leaders in Kota Kinabalu, where they issued a joint statement agreeing to foster a spirit of unity in line with the existing understanding between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Zahid.
