TUARAN: Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC), in partnership with the Sabah State Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM), has proudly advanced its Iftar Journey 2025 to Tuaran, the third location on this meaningful initiative.
This program spans the state constituencies of the Sulaman, Pantai Dalit, Tamparuli, and Kiulu, a dedicated focus on providing assistance to those in need.
The iftar event, held at the Al Hafidz Islamic Primary School in Tuaran and the Old Tuaran Mosque, featured the distribution of iftar meals to underprivileged groups, including the asnaf, persons with disabilities, single mothers, orphans, and individuals from the B40 income group.
Over 400 attendees were present, with 40 recipients receiving festive cash contributions this afternoon.
This initiative is part of KTC and UPPM Sabah’s efforts to assist underprivileged communities across 25 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah.
During an interview with reporters, the Assemblyman for Pantai Dalit and Executive Chairman of Innoprise, Datuk Jasnih, stated that this program is a collaborative effort by UPPM and KTC to support those in need throughout Ramadan.
He commended KTC for being a socially responsible private company that contributes to the community.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to Datuk Dexter Lau and UPPM for organizing this program. He hopes that corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives like this can be held during other celebrations in the future and become a regular practice during festive seasons.
KTC’s Executive Director, Datuk Dexter Lau, expressed his joy in being able to contribute to the community, particularly in witnessing the happiness of children shopping for Hari Raya.
He believes that their joy is sufficient. He emphasized that every contribution, no matter how small, holds significance when given with sincere intent.
He also hopes that these children will one day give back to the community as adults.
UPPM Sabah, Datuk Awang Kadin, emphasized that as a unit responsible for coordinating grassroots development, UPPM Sabah plays a crucial role in ensuring that every government policy reaches the people.
The UPPM Sabah team strives to act as a bridge between the community and the government, ensuring that the needs and issues of the citizens receive appropriate attention.
The Iftar Tour 2025 in Tuaran was further enlivened by the presence of the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, as well as the ADUN of Kiulu, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, the District Chief of Tuaran, OKK Dato’ Haji Mohd Zain Bin Datuk Hj Dahlan, the Tamparuli Gagasan Rakyat chief Datuk Alijus Sipil, local leaders, local government officials, KTC executives, and UPPM representatives.
Founded in 1938, KTC has evolved into a robust company that has successfully operated for 89 years, spanning three generations of the Lau family from Sabah.
Under the leadership of Datuk Dexter Lau as Executive Director, KTC was listed on Bursa Malaysia in 2015, marking a historic milestone as the first FMCG company from Sabah to be publicly listed.
