Warisan Leaders’ Presence At Sabah UMNO Open House Fuels Talk of Possible Cooperation To Face-Off With GRS In Next State Election

KOTA KINABALU: The presence of several Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) leaders at the Sabah Umno Aidilfitri open house has further fueled rumours that the two parties may work together to challenge GRS in the next state election.

Among the Warisan leaders present were Deputy President Datuk Jaujan Sambakong, Secretary General Datuk Loretto Padua, and Darau Assemblyman Datuk Azhar Matussin.

Thousands of UMNO leaders, members and supporters attended the Open House, including Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and state UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, which was held at Sabah UMNO Building, near here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Jaujan said Warisan hoped that political cooperation between Warisan and UMNO would become a reality, asserting that it was possibly the best formula to stabilise the country politically, especially in Sabah.

The Sulabayan assemblyman said this when asked to comment on rumours about the possible cooperation to face the upcoming state election.

“As our president (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) said before, we are open to working with anyone. We are not against working with UMNO,” he said.

Shafie was quoted as saying recently that he was willing to forget political rivalry in the past for the sake of unity, progress and political stability in Sabah.

“I am always open to work with this party (UMNO/BN).

“What is important is that this cooperation can be translated into something that can bring good to the development of the state of Sabah, as well as strengthen the country’s politics,” said Shafie
