KOTA BELUD: Youths have a major role in determining the nation’s future, particularly in bringing the nation to greater heights, said Usukan State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
Recognising this fact, he said the effort to nurture young people’s potential or better known as Gen Y should start from a young age.
“As we all know, students are the pillars as well as the future leaders of the country. So, nurturing, guidance and encouragement from all aspects of life at an early stage is very important,” he said.
Salleh, who is also fomer Sabah Chief Minister said this when delivering his speech in conjunction with the 2021 Outstanding Student Award Ceremony for SMK Pekan Kota Belud, which was conducted virtually, today.
According to him, students come to school not only to study but also to be nurtured as the future leaders of the country.
“As such, our education system must always be dynamic and progressive and ready to go through a process of change and reform in tandem with the passage of time,” he said.
Towards this end, he said the Ministry of Education had introduced Classroom Assessment since 2016 as a measure of children’s competence in school.
“We need to produce excellent and competent students who achieve quality standards to further their studies at public or private Institutions of Higher Learning,” he said.
In this respect, Salleh said educators played a crucial role in helping fulfill the agenda to improve the quality of education in the country.
On the Outstanding Student Awards program, he said it was a special platform to celebrate the accomplishments of students who had proven their excellence in academics, co-curriculum and personality.
