KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government aims to increase its ability to provide vaccination up to 50,000 doses daily.
Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun said that yesterday, the Sabah Health Department has given out 43,792 doses of vaccines.
“The maximum immunisation capacity and uninterrupted vaccine supply will enable Sabah to achieve herd immunity earlier,” he said in his latest social media post.
Masidi said that the latest new Covid-19 cases in Sabah stood at 1,002 with Kota Kinabalu and Tawau both registering 171 cases in the last 24-hours.
This is followed by Penampang with 100 cases, Sipitang with 90 cases, Sandakan with 75 cases, Tuaran with 73 cases, Keningau with 47 cases, Telupid with 40 cases, Ranau with 34 cases, Beaufort with 28 cases and Kinabatangan with 22 cases, he said.
All districts in Sabah registered new cases.
“Two new clusters were discovered today, the Tembidong Bidong cluster in Telupid / Beluran which is a community cluster with 88 (+35) cases and Jalan Patikang Ulu in Keningau which is a work cluster with 17(+3) cases,” he said.
Masidi said that close contacts continue to generate the most cases with 591 or 59 percent.
Kota Kinabalu contributed nearly 63 percent of new cases coming from close contacts, Tawau 70 percent, Penampang 67 percent and Sipitang 62 percent, he said.
Masidi said that the data derived indicated that the area where the virus is spreading has widened.
“The source of the infection in the category is unknown and the cases are sporadic.”
