KOTA KINABALU: Inanam assemblyman Edna Majimbun has called for a comprehensive and long-term solution to recurring floods in Kolombong, saying residents should not have to face the same problem whenever heavy rain hits the area.
Following the latest flooding on Sept 22, Edna urged the relevant agencies and technical authorities to come together and identify the root causes instead of relying on temporary measures.
“The people of Kolombong have faced the same problem far too often. It is time to find a real solution, rather than merely responding after floods occur,” she said in a statement.
Edna said drainage systems, water flow, infrastructure maintenance and other contributing factors should be thoroughly examined.
She added that the authorities should formulate concrete and properly planned measures to reduce the risk of recurring floods.
“What is needed now is not merely temporary action whenever flooding occurs, but a concrete and well-planned solution,” she said.
Edna also called for clear coordination among the agencies involved, including identifying the measures required and determining which authorities are responsible for implementing them.
She said the recurring problem had affected residents, road users and daily activities in the Kolombong area.
