MANILA: A Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo plane with 85 people aboard crashed on Sunday while attempting to land in Sulu province in the southern Philippines, reported Xinhua.
Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said the plane was transporting troops from Cagayan de Oro City on Mindanao island when it crashed around 11:30 a.m. local time in Patikul in Sulu.
“The plane missed the runway and tried to regain power but failed,” Sobejana said, confirming that 40 people have been rescued from the wreckage so far.
“Responders are at the site now,” he said, expressing hope that more people on the ill-fated plane will be saved.
