TUARAN: Gabungan Bebas Merdeka (GBM) has proposed that the Prime Minister position be rotated among Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak every five to eight years to prevent power concentration by any single region in national administration.
Its chairman, Dr Kanul Gindol, stated that this proposal warrants consideration as part of efforts to restructure the federal power-sharing framework to better secure Sabah and Sarawak’s standing.
He also suggested that the next Malaysian Prime Minister should come from Sarawak, aligning with GBM’s call to establish political equilibrium among the three regions.
The proposal was announced during the launch of GBM’s Political Culture Proclamation at Tamu Tenghilan, Tuaran, on Thursday.
According to Kanul, the existing power-sharing system requires reassessment to ensure Sabah and Sarawak do not remain in what he described as an imbalanced position compared to Peninsular Malaysia.
Therefore, he urged amendments to the Federal Constitution to enable the implementation of a Prime Minister rotation formula and power-sharing arrangement among the regions.
Nevertheless, this proposal remains GBM’s political stance and has not yet become part of the nation’s constitutional framework.
