TONGOD: The Sabah government remains dedicated to strengthening the Native Court institution through infrastructure development and improvements in the administrative system of customs across the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that several Native Courts have been established, including in Tongod, Putatan, Nabawan, Papar, Tamparuli, and Sook, in addition to new projects currently in the tender process in Kota Kinabalu and Paitan.
He noted that these efforts demonstrate that the state government is not only focused on economic and physical development but also seriously prioritises the strengthening of institutions that serve the people to maintain harmony among the diverse communities in Sabah.
“The effort to strengthen the Native Court must continue by ensuring that its jurisdiction is clear and sufficient, supported by officers of integrity and capability.
“Improvements in procedures that are more modern, organised, and effective must also be implemented in line with current needs,” he said during the inauguration of the Tongod Native Court Building on Wednesday.
Hajiji mentioned that the state government greatly values the roles of the District Chief, Native Chief, Native Chief Representative, and Village Head, who serve as vital links between the government and the grassroots community.
He stated that these individuals play a significant role in ensuring that community harmony is preserved, especially in Sabah, which is rich in ethnic diversity, customs, and culture.
He added that all customary leaders and members of the Native Court must continue to enhance their performance in managing and resolving community disputes more efficiently and effectively
