KOTA KINABALU: The president of a Sabah-based non-governmental organization is set to face charges today at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court over alleged misuse of funds.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah recently confirmed the arrest of the NGO leader, suspected of abusing his position in connection with the misappropriation of around RM2 million intended for building a community hall.
According to reports, the suspect—believed to be in his 60s—was taken into custody on Tuesday morning while giving a statement at the MACC office in Sabah.
Preliminary findings indicate that the alleged offense occurred in 2022, involving funds provided by the Ministry of Finance for the construction of a cultural hall and gallery in the state.
It is further alleged that the individual proceeded with both the application and project implementation without obtaining prior approval from the NGO’s Supreme Council.
Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah verified the arrest.
