PAPAR: Papar holds significant potential to emerge as a primary stopover for visitors from Brunei and Sarawak, following the full completion of the Pan Borneo Highway project, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said that with the Borneo Cultural Village and the Sabah Native Customs School located in Papar, the district is poised to become a progressive and competitive area.
“We can see for ourselves in Papar, this district showcases remarkable changes with several infrastructure and commercial development projects that have been and are actively being implemented, including in Benoni and the surrounding Kinarut area,” he said.
Hajiji made these remarks during the launch of the State-level Kaamatan Festival at the Community Hall here on Friday.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I/Minister of Works & Utilities Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam; Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Deputy Chief Minister II/Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun; Minister of Home Affairs and Cost of Living/Member of Parliament for Papar Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali; Assistant Minister of Rural Development/ADUN Limbahau Datuk Juil Nuatim; Director of Yayasan Sabah/ADUN Kawang Datuk Ghulam HaidarKhan Bahadar and Chairman of SUDC/ADUN Pantai Manis Datuk Pengiran Saifudfin Pengiran Tahir Petra.
Hajiji said that the choice of Papar as the host for this year’s Kaamatan Festival launch is very appropriate as Papar is well-known as one of the fertile rice granaries in the state of Sabah.
“The Papar district is not only rich in its produce but also rich in cultural values and the spirit of community among its diverse ethnic groups, living in a peaceful and harmonious environment.
This is the true reflection of the face of Sabah that we take pride in,” he added.
