KOTA KINABALU: Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) David Ong has strongly condemned the irresponsible statement made by Ridhuan Tee, who alleged that Chinese independent schools and the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) are a “communist product”.
He emphasised that, for context, the UEC is an examination taken by students in Chinese independent secondary schools in Malaysia.
“It is internationally recognised and assists students in gaining admission to universities and professional fields.
“It represents years of effort by the community to preserve language, culture, and quality education,” he stated today.
David noted that the UEC was established by Dong Zong in 1975, a long-standing and legitimate educational body in the country.
He questioned whether such accusations imply that Dong Zong is a communist organisation.
“Is he suggesting that Malaysia should allow or support a communist system within its own educational framework? Such implications are not only absurd but also an insult to institutions that have positively contributed to our nation for decades,” he said.
David asserted that Chinese independent schools and the UEC are vital components of the Chinese community and Malaysia’s diverse educational system.
Labelling it a “communist product” is entirely unfounded, misleading, and disrespectful. Any conflict or tension in our society does not stem from education but from the careless thoughts of individuals attempting to divide people.
“I challenge Ridhuan Tee to provide evidence. Where is the proof that Chinese independent schools or the UEC promote communism? Which UEC graduates have become communists? Making such claims without evidence is irresponsible and wrong,” he emphasised.
