KOTA KINABALU: As the holy month of Ramadan begins, a lawmaker has urged Malaysians to stand in solidarity with the global community in calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the pursuit of a two-state solution to address the long-standing injustices faced by the people.
Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau emphasised the importance of condemning violence and expressing compassion towards the victims, particularly the Palestinians.
In his latest Facebook post, he also highlighted the need for unity, mutual respect, and inclusivity among Malaysians, rejecting divisive tactics based on religion, ethnicity, or language.
Madius also called for reflection, spiritual purification, and a commitment to upholding the principles of justice and equality enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
He emphasised the equal partnership of Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia, stressing the importance of honouring the rights and agreements outlined in MA63 and other relevant documents.
In light of Nik Elin’s case, Madius said the landmark judgement by the Federal Court has indeed endorsed the Constitution’s supremacy and its sovereignty, of which the legislative powers of the federal and state governments have been determined in the Ninth Schedule.
“The judgement has absolutely nothing to do with undermining Islam as a religion, the official religion of the country.
“We must respect the judgement in the right spirit and abide by the court’s interpretation of the Constitution.
“Let us take time to reflect on our healing of mind and emotion while embracing our spiritual quotient throughout the holy month,” he said.
