KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is prepared to contest independently or to go solo in the upcoming Sabah State Election, stated the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Hajiji emphasised that local parties must be the cornerstone of Sabah’s governance, reflecting the realities, culture, and needs of the state’s populace.
The GRS Chairman added that this principle is firmly upheld by the coalition while still recognising the role and significance of national parties within a broader collaborative framework.
“If the final decision of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) is to collaborate in the upcoming state election, then GRS is ready to compete independently and focus on cooperation with other like-minded local parties.
“Deviating from this principle means neglecting the aspirations of a significant portion of the people of Sabah,’ he said in a statement today.
According to Hajiji, GRS’s primary struggle is to ensure political stability and the welfare of the people for the future of Sabah.
He also stressed that the current state government should be strengthened, as it contributes to political stability and reinforces the unity government at the federal level.
“Ignoring local aspirations in the political context of Sabah is inconsistent with the sentiments of the grassroots population,’ he stated. Consequently, GRS will hold a leadership meeting soon to determine the coalition’s direction in facing the state election.
“GRS will also engage in official discussions with the parties currently forming the state government to gather their views and positions,” he added.
