Mustapha urges Sabahans to reject the culture of politics that exploits religion for the sake of power

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud had expressed disappointment over the statement by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who linked the Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) to the Dajjal (the devil) approach.

He said such a statement by a respected and well-liked religious figure has the potential to confuse Muslims in Sabah, especially when such a heavy religious term is used to question differences in political strategies.

“For the people of Sabah, the culture of labelling fellow Muslims with such negative portrayals simply because of differing political stances is very strange and hard to accept.

“The diversity of religions, races, and cultures has long been a strength that unites the people of Sabah, not a reason for hostility.

“Is it necessary to resort to this term when political arguments are no longer sufficient?” he said in a statement today.

Mustapha asserted that CSA can be debated rationally within the framework of parliamentary democracy without dragging religious sentiments to vilify those with differing views.

“Don’t forget, the CSA approach was also implemented when PAS was in the government. So, is PAS also the Dajjal? said Mustapha.

As such, the Sepanggar member of Parliament urged all the people of Sabah to continue to uphold the harmony and unity of this state and to reject the culture of politics that exploits religion for the sake of power.

“Religion should unite, not divide. Religion should unite, not divide. Sabah does not need to be taught about unity by those who still enjoy labelling each other.

“We should seek points of togetherness in maintaining societal harmony while also respecting our differences. We should seek points of togetherness in maintaining societal harmony while also respecting our differences,” he added.
