KOTA KINABALU: Police have called in three individuals for questioning in connection with an alleged bullying incident involving a female primary school student at a dormitory in Tenom, following the spread of a video showing the incident on social media.
Superintendent Azmir Abd Razak, head of the Tenom District Police, confirmed that a report was filed today and that investigations are underway under Section 325 (causing hurt), Section 507B (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
According to initial findings, the incident is believed to have taken place on June 11 at a school hostel in Tenom, involving a student in Year Five.
“Three people have been brought to the Tenom District Police Headquarters to assist with the investigation, including the suspected perpetrator and others believed to have recorded and shared the video,” Azmir said in a statement.
He added that several items linked to the case have been seized as part of the investigation.
Azmir stressed that acts of bullying, violence, and the sharing of material that may humiliate or intimidate victims are treated seriously by law enforcement.
“Legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible, in line with existing laws,” he said.
He urged the public to refrain from spreading the video or making assumptions, as doing so could interfere with the investigation and harm the emotional well-being of the young victim.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the case file will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further direction.
