KOTA KINABALU: Authorities have confiscated 300 eggs believed to belong to Green Turtles during a targeted operation in Kampung Serusup on Wednesday.
The Sabah Wildlife Department (JHL) confirmed the seizure in a press release issued today, stating the raid was conducted jointly with the Special Investigation Intelligence Unit (WCB) after coordinated intelligence gathering and investigative efforts.
A 37-year-old local man was also taken into custody to assist with inquiries into the unlawful possession of protected wildlife items.
The recovered eggs are estimated to be valued at RM3,000.
The case is now being pursued under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997, which prohibits the possession of products from fully protected animals without proper authorization.
JHL Sabah emphasized its firm stance against any form of possession, trade, or trafficking involving wildlife, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening enforcement to safeguard endangered species.
Despite ongoing public education and shifts in community attitudes, demand for turtle eggs persists, fueling illegal trade and smuggling activities.
The department urges the public not to purchase, keep, or consume turtle eggs, as these acts are prohibited by law.
Anyone with information about the sale or movement of such products is encouraged to come forward and assist authorities in curbing wildlife crime and protecting sea turtle populations in Sabah.
