KOTA KINABALU: UMNO Putatan reaffirms its commitment to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which secures Sabah’s right to self-governance in immigration matters.
Jeffrey Nor Mohamed, the division’s chief, expressed support for the Sabah government’s move to defer the introduction of the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in the state.
He clarified that the delay does not reflect opposition but reflects a careful review of how the agency might impact Sabah’s existing immigration autonomy.
“This decision is timely and commendable, as it allows space to assess whether the implementation could undermine the state’s authority over immigration,” he stated in a recent social media update.
Jeffrey emphasised that as Sabahans, “we all have a responsibility to safeguard and uphold the rights guaranteed under MA63.”
He also extended appreciation to the chief minister and the state cabinet for their decisive and principled stance.
