Ebit Lew Ordered to enter defence on 11 Harassment Charges

TENOM: A preacher has been ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to enter his defence on 11 charges related to sexual harassment.

Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani made this ruling after determining that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew.

On February 8, 2022, Ebit was charged with 11 counts of dishonouring a woman, now 46 years old, by posting obscene images and words, as well as making lewd video calls to the victim via WhatsApp between March and June 2021.

He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a fine, or both, if found guilty.

Ebit pleaded not guilty, and the court granted him bail while awaiting the conclusion of the trial.

A total of 18 prosecution witnesses have testified since the trial commenced in September 2022.

The prosecution is led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Nor Azizah Mohamad, Analia Kamaruddin, and Muhammad Hidayat Wahab, while Ebit is represented by lawyers Datuk Ram Singh, Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki, and Timothy Daut.
