Masidi goes to MACC’s office in KK of his own accord to give statement over viral video

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Finance Minister Masidi Manjun has provided a statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here regarding a viral video that suggests his involvement, along with other Sabah assembly members, in a purported mining scandal.

As reported by FMT, the secretary-general of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) stated that he visited the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu at 8 PM last night, clarifying that he was not summoned by the agency.

“I have previously expressed my willingness to fully cooperate with the relevant authorities in their investigation into this issue,” he remarked.

“My visit to the MACC office was intended to assist in their inquiry and to demonstrate my support for their initiatives against corruption in this state.”

Earlier today, Masidi refuted claims that a significant bribe was offered to facilitate an application for a mineral exploration license in Sabah. This allegation is part of a series of videos released by Malaysiakini, featuring a supposed whistleblower in discussions with assembly members.

“I am astonished at how some individuals can go to such lengths to defame others with falsehoods and character attacks,” Masidi stated, noting that the videos involving him had been manipulated.

The MACC is currently investigating an alleged corruption case related to mineral project licenses in Sabah, which is connected to a businessman reportedly involved with several assembly members.

Last month, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim dismissed any notion of a cover-up in MACC’s investigations and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to combating corruption.
