Vendors at Tanah Merah Temporary Market Will Not Be Evicted—George Hiew

SANDAKAN – The Karamunting State Assemblyman, Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, has stressed that vendors at the Tanah Merah Temporary Market will not be removed from their temporary business site, despite rumours suggesting otherwise.

During his visit to the market last Sunday, George interacted with the vendors, checked on their conditions, and took the opportunity to clarify the situation after hearing about false reports regarding the vendors’ relocation.

“This market is currently undergoing repairs, and I want to assure everyone that vendors are allowed to continue their business here,” he stated.

He also reminded that the Sabah Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Joachim Gunsalam, had previously assured that vendors would not be evicted from this location.

In related news, George announced that funding for the renovation of the Karamunting Market has been approved, and if everything goes smoothly, the market is expected to reopen early next year.

“However, I want to remind the contractor responsible for the repairs to carry out their work diligently and carefully. I will also monitor the progress of the Karamunting Market renovation project regularly,” he added.

During his visit, George was informed that some canopies at the temporary market are worn out, and he promised to find a way to help vendors replace them with new ones.

He also advised the community to refer to reliable sources and not to be easily swayed by baseless rumours.

“I urge everyone to always consult the authorities for accurate information. To those spreading false information, please stop,” he said.
