KOTA KINABALU: Eleven individuals, including a businessman holding the honorific title of “Datuk,” believed to be associated with Sabah’s biggest drug cartel, have been brought to the Kota Kinabalu court complex to face multiple charges.
Talantang.com reported that the accused, Datuk Maslan Sani, aged 41, along with ten others, have been indicted at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court for their involvement in the organised crime group known as “Geng Upik.”
They arrived at the court premises at approximately 8:20 am, accompanied by tight police security while dressed in ordinary attire.
Furthermore, a team of police officers from Bukit Aman is stationed both outside and inside the courthouse to ensure heightened security measures.
It has been reported that two roadblocks were established near the court complex as early as 6 a.m.
On December 26, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay stated that the “Datuk,” who also served as a patron for a non-governmental organization (NGO), was apprehended on Christmas night under suspicion of being a key figure in Sabah’s largest drug syndicate.
