KOTA KINABALU: As Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah works to strengthen its position amid growing political pressures, public challenges to the leadership of BN Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup are being viewed as counterproductive—offering rivals a chance to exploit divisions within the coalition.
Senior figures from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) have stepped forward in support of Arthur, stressing that airing internal grievances through the media must stop.
Such actions, they argue, damage BN’s public image and weaken public trust at the grassroots level.
Gabriel George Tulas, PBRS chief for the N42 Melalap constituency, dismissed recent criticisms from Tawau UMNO Division Chief Ghazalie Ansing as unjust and reflective of a misunderstanding of Arthur’s broader contributions to BN Sabah’s organizational stability.
He highlighted that Arthur carries not only the duties of a Federal Minister but also plays a central role in maintaining the party’s structure, strategic planning, and operational readiness ahead of upcoming elections.
“Leadership commitment shouldn’t be judged just by physical appearances in one place. Much of the critical coordination, planning, and party-building happens out of public view,” Gabriel explained.
He added that all decisions made by BN Sabah’s leadership are based on collective agreements reached among top coalition officials, making it inappropriate for any individual or faction to issue narrow, unilateral judgments that risk damaging the leadership’s credibility.
Gabriel warned that public infighting only fuels opposition narratives about internal disarray within BN Sabah.
“This isn’t the moment for blame or public disputes. What the people expect is a united and stable BN focused on addressing real concerns, not distracted by internal conflicts,” he said.
