Sabah’s people live in harmony through diversity

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah stands as a clear example of how a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society can live together in peace and harmony, according to former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He described this harmony not as an abstract concept, but as a daily reality embraced by the people.

“There is no space for bias or divisive rhetoric here. People maintain their religious beliefs while building ever-closer relationships,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidiladha message.

Salleh shared that receiving festive greetings from friends of other faiths during Hari Raya is deeply meaningful.

“It shows real friendship and mutual respect. Likewise, we make it a point to offer our best wishes when they celebrate their own religious and cultural occasions,” he noted.

This mutual recognition, he emphasised, lies at the heart of peaceful coexistence—honouring differences in belief while staying connected through respect and common humanity.

Respecting others, he added, does not compromise one’s own faith; instead, it demonstrates social maturity and the strength of a community.

“Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of the values of unity, respect, and togetherness,” he said.

He concluded by extending Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha to all Muslims in Sabah.
