“We are confident of winning the Sabah state election,” says Mohd Shafie Apdal

KOTA KINABALU: The Warisan party hints that its chances of winning in the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN) are significant, given its record during its time in government.

Its president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, stated that compared to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which has governed the state for five years, he does not see any major changes in job opportunities and economic growth in the state.

On the contrary, the Semporna MP noted that during Warisan’s administration, state revenue from 2018 to 2019 reached RM5 billion, with sales tax from Petronas amounting to RM7 billion.

However, he mentioned that this year’s state budget of RM6.7 billion does not show a significant increase.

“The previous increase came from the WARISAN government through the implementation of taxes.

“In comparison to them (the current government), which has been in power for five years, all they have is land clearing and investments here and there. But where are the job opportunities? Where is the investment coming in?” he said at a press conference at the Warisan headquarters today.

He made these remarks after a meeting with the party’s supreme council members, branch leaders, and representatives.

He expressed that his confidence in winning is also based on the clear voice of the people of Sabah who want a local party, especially Warisan, to govern the state in alignment with their actions.

“They want a local party, not just a party name. They do not evaluate based on words or promises, but based on the actions and deeds of Warisan,” he added.
