KOTA KINABALU: The ongoing water supply crisis in Sabah continues to cause concern, significantly impacting the state’s tourism sector.
Reports indicate that several hotels in popular tourist areas have had to decline guest bookings due to inconsistent water supply.
Naim Moktar, the treasurer of the UMNO Youth Movement, expressed serious concern over this issue in a statement and urged the state government to provide a concrete solution promptly.
“The tourism and hospitality sector is one of the largest contributors to Sabah’s GDP and a primary source of income for the people of this state.
“Disruptions in water supply not only hinder industry operations but also tarnish Sabah’s image as a leading tourist destination in the ASEAN region,” he stated.
He also called on the state government to take full accountability for this crisis and to implement a comprehensive action plan that includes both short-term and long-term solutions.
Among the proposals put forward are the provision of alternative water supplies to affected hotels and resorts, the development of sustainable water infrastructure, and compensation schemes or incentives to restore investor confidence.
“Sabah is indeed rich in natural beauty and unique culture, but all of this is meaningless if fundamental needs like water supply cannot be guaranteed.
“It is time for the Sabah Government to take serious action, not just make promises, but to deliver results,” he emphasised further.
