KOTA KINABALU: The people of Sabah have been urged to back the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition government at the upcoming state election.
Making the call, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president says a victory for GRS and its partner (PH) is a victory for the people.
“A vote for GRS-PH also means a vote for continuity to ensure all development and economic programmes that have been drawn up are implemented,” he adds.
Dr Yee, a former Deputy Chief Minister, expresses confidence that the shift on the ground will be towards the ruling coalition as the people are aware of what Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and his administration had done since coming to power in 2020.
He cites the ambitious Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap as one of the major initiatives to bring Sabah to greater heights.
The Chief Minister, he recalls, had mentioned recently that the SMJ initiative aligned with the Malaysia Madani concept to ensure Malaysia would develop rapidly and respected globally.
Sabah is committed to catalysing growth with emphasis on three key sectors, namely agriculture, industry and tourism.
“And, great job on the Ulu Padas Hydroelectric project…you knock it out of the park. So, who is saying the government has failed to do anything to address the state’s water and power woes?”.
The project is scheduled for completion end of 2030.
Dr Yee believes this huge project will leave an indelible mark on the minds of the people of Sabah.
“And, this hydroelectric project reflects the true commitment of the Chief Minister and his administration to bring about a long-term solution,” he says, explaining that resolving the water and electricity problems is not something which can be done overnight.
Dr Yee also says the constant onslaught against GRS over legacy issues clearly shows the deep-seated hatred of the opposition who are hell-bent to unseat the ruling coalition at the poll.
Just recently, Warisan had again raised the water issue, claiming that the GRS-PH coalition had failed to provide a clear roadmap to address the current water woes, especially in Kota Kinabalu city.
Its information chief Samuel Wong said the coalition government was becoming increasingly idle when it concerned resolving the water issue.
“The Chief Minister is a man of integrity and under his leadership, Sabah has undergone economic progress crucial for the people’s well-being,” he says.
Dr Yee also enthuses that the coalition government’s performance thus far has been nothing short of outstanding.
“My standing ovation not just for the performance but also for the leader himself and his administration,” he says.
The former Api Api Assemblyman also urged voters to avoid varolising claims that might appear founded but which are not true when later verified
Meanwhile, he stresses the need to connect with the young “as we need to say and do things that will strike a chord with them”.
“We need a mix of the old and young…the former have experience and wisdom while the latter have energy and sufficient time to learn the ropes,” he says.
Dr Yee also points out that there is no place for politics of slander but a political agenda to grow Sabah’s economy and henceforth, improving the masses’ well-being.
“Sabah is in safe hands….don’t disrupt the political stability crucial for development and progress,” he says.
