KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR has called on the STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan to promptly withdraw from the unity government.
The Secretary of the Sabah State Leadership Council (MPN), Sazalye Donol, stated that this challenge follows Kitingan’s recent remarks, which labelled parties from Peninsular Malaysia as colonisers and their leaders as traitors, describing these comments as excessive and inciting.
He noted that during his speech at the launch of the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Youth yesterday, Kitingan should leave the unity government if he can no longer collaborate with the parties involved.
“We find Kitingan’s statements to be highly insensitive to the stability and peace of the nation, particularly in Sabah.
“PKR Sabah fully understands and respects the rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), but these matters should be addressed with prudence,” he remarked in a statement today.
Sazalye emphasised that the presence of parties from Peninsular Malaysia does not violate the Malaysian constitution, and their leaders should not be labelled as traitors as Kitingan has suggested.
“Such labelling and unfounded accusations are highly irresponsible and can be classified as incitement.
“PKR Sabah would like to enquire what tangible achievements Kitingan has made in advocating for MA63, aside from seasonal rhetoric, especially during the Sabah State Election (PRN)—the answer is none,” Sazalye clarified.
He added that all rights restored thus far have been due to the initiative and agreement of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, prior to any formal demands from other parties during the Madani government.
