KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Dexter Lau, the Executive Director of KTC, played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the recent charity program – The Ramadan Iftar Tour of Sabah.

With his people-oriented approach and strong focus on the welfare of others, Dexter showcased his leadership skills and proved himself to be an amiable and friendly entrepreneur.

Collaborating with the Sabah’s Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM), KTC brought joy to the people through their charity program held throughout Ramadan.

As the Ramadan 2024 Iftar Tour series came to an end, the memory of KTC’s efforts in making a positive impact on the people of Sabah during this holy month will be cherished.

Furthermore, apart from the Ramadan Iftar Tour program, a ‘Shopping Raya’ event was also held for specific groups such as the asnaf, single mothers, OKU, orphans, and other selected individuals, benefiting more than 700 people.

The program spanned across the state, covering 73 State Assembly areas (DUN) within 25 Parliamentary areas.

It commenced in Kalabakan at the start of Ramadan and concluded in Beaufort on April 7.

During each stop of the tour, local representatives were in attendance as esteemed guests, with the number of attendees ranging from 200 to 600 individuals.

The program was deemed a success, effectively reaching out to the grassroots level.

Dexter embarked on a convoy of four-wheeled vehicles, traveling from one district to another, to ensure his presence at every scheduled program.

Despite feeling exhausted from the program, in most instances, he returned to the state capital of Kota Kinabalu late at night.

The Ramadan Iftar Tour program is a novel initiative, organized for the first time by KTC in collaboration with UPPM Sabah.

KTC takes its corporate social responsibility (CSR) seriously by providing assistance to those in need, including orphanages, and spreading joy and happiness during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

KTC fully sponsors the breaking of fast meals and also organizes a shopping spree called ‘Raya Shopping’ for targeted groups.

This event is usually attended by Dexter’s wife, Datin Siew Yee.

During a recent meeting with the Utusan Borneo chief editor Datuk Li Chong Angkui, Dexter emphasized that this program is a dedicated initiative and commitment by KTC and UPPM to support and assist targeted groups across the state.

Dexter expressed his deep appreciation for the support of UPPM Sabah’s Director, Datuk Awang Kadin Tang, in collaborating to ensure the success of the program at selected locations.

UPPM Sabah has machinery at the district level throughout the state, making them the most suitable agency to organize local events. KTC provides all the necessary expenses to ensure the program’s success,” he said.

As a patriotic entrepreneur from Sabah, Dexter aims to share blessings with the local community so that everyone can experience the joy of Aidilfitri after fasting throughout Ramadan.

Furthermore, Dexter believes that this initiative demonstrates the local company’s support for the government’s commitment to developing the state through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) direction.

The breaking of fast event organized by KTC and UPPM was attended by members of the local community, representing various ethnicities and religions.

This event symbolizes unity and harmony within Sabah’s multicultural society, showcasing the diversity and cultural richness of the region.

Dexter envisions continuing such programs in the future, as he believes that the event held with UPPM serves as a platform for unity and harmony among the people of Sabah.

The efforts undertaken by KTC should serve as an inspiration for other corporations, including government-linked companies (GLCs), to share blessings and foster unity and harmony among themselves.

Through such initiatives, it not only promotes social responsibility but also strengthens the bonds within the community.

The cooperation between KTC and UPPM in fostering unity sets a remarkable example, leading Sabah to become a role model for a nation that is united, prosperous, and successful.
