KOTA KINABALU: Passengers aboard a train travelling from Beaufort to Sembulan experienced a moment of panic when the train collided with the barrier and station wall at Sembulan Station on Saturday morning.

Fortunately, all passengers and staff on board remained unharmed, and the train carriages were undamaged.

Sabah Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya explained that the incident occurred due to a technical issue with Locomotive 7001’s air system, which caused the brake system to malfunction.

“As a result, the locomotive crashed into the barrier and station wall. However, the four passenger carriages involved were unscathed, and no injuries were reported,” he said in a statement here today.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah assured that the affected carriages were pulled by another locomotive and continued their journey as scheduled.

“Although Locomotive 7001 derailed and sustained damage, efforts to lift it, repair the barrier and track, and fix the station wall will commence promptly.

“Additionally, thorough investigations will be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.
