IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that an increasing number of opposition MPs will lend their support to the government due to their diminishing confidence in their own parties.

According to BERNAMA, Anwar explained that these MPs were promised a change in government through covert tactics, but it never materialized.

He criticised opposition leaders for exploiting negative sentiments, including racial issues, to manipulate these MPs.

Anwar used a metaphor to emphasize the strength and stability of his government, stating that despite being warned that the roof is made of concrete and not thatch, these MPs still chose to believe in false promises and abandoned their parties.

He further asserted that as hope fades away, these MPs will gradually leave their respective parties.

Anwar said this when closing a convention of the Perak unity government here today.

Anwar, who is also the chairman of Pakatan Harapan, highlighted the stability and strength of the unity coalition government, which includes parties from Sabah and Sarawak.

He urged those attempting to disrupt the coalition to accept the reality that it will remain intact until the end of its term.

Anwar also mentioned that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the King of Malaysia, had advised political leaders to prioritise unity and focus on driving growth for the country.

He expressed confidence that the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar of Johor, would uphold this stance when assuming office.

Anwar emphasised that the unity government’s main focus would be on economic growth, as it has four more years to demonstrate the success of its administration.

He assured that his government would continue to uphold national principles, including safeguarding the rights of the Malays and Bumiputeras.

The convention was attended by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the chairman of Barisan Nasional, and other prominent figures from Perak.
