KOTA KINABALU: Kuamut Independent state assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah says he needs “a little more time” to gauge the current political situation before choosing to join a political party.

He said he would not be in a hurry to make a decision, instead took a more cautious approach for fear of the phobia of being levelled as “frog”.

The joke in Sabah is that those who change parties with an elected mandate – are called party frogs.

“I received a lot of offers from various political parties…so many offers but give me a little more time to decide,” he said.

Masiung, who is also the Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Board, said this after attending the Aidilfitri with the media here today.

“Let me calm down first and analyze the current political situation … but as for the government, we support the GRS government,” said the former UPKO supreme council member.

He left UPKO just before the 2020 state election.

Asked whether he would rejoin UPKO, Masiung said “nothing is impossible in politics”

Meanwhile, Sabah UMNO Liaison Chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin was quoted as saying recently that ‘there will be other independent state assemblymen’ joining the party soon.

“God willing, there will be. This will strengthen BN-UMNO (in Sabah) and our goal is to strengthen the party and develop the state,” said Bung Moktar.
