Don’t Just Blame Warisan, Lim Guan Eng Announces PDP Pan Borneo Termination
SANDAKAN: Warisan Sabah Deputy President Datuk Darell Leiking is questioning why certain parties continue to blame his party regarding the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah, when the decision to terminate the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) model was actually announced by former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
He explained that this decision wasn’t made solely by the Warisan-led state government. Instead, it involved a decision made by the Federal Government administration at that time.
“Why is only Warisan being blamed when the decision was announced by Lim Guan Eng?” he asked while speaking at the opening of the Warisan 2026 Annual Grand Conference and Women, Heroes and Heroines Selection ceremony at Yu Yang Hall here on Saturday.
According to Darell, he himself was a Federal Cabinet member when this decision was made, alongside two other Sabah representatives, Datuk VK Liew and Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi.
He stated that the decision to end the PDP model was jointly accepted at the Federal Cabinet level after considering various issues related to the project’s implementation.
Darell also questioned the actions of certain political leaders, including those who previously worked with Pakatan Harapan (PH) but now collaborate with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), whom he accused of continuously pointing fingers at Warisan.
He said that several leaders who are now in different political groups also held important positions when that decision was made.
Among those he mentioned were Datuk Seri Madius Tangau, Datuk Christina Liew, Datuk Ewon Benedick and Datuk Ginger Phoong.
“All their friends point fingers at Warisan, but not at other parties that were also in the administration at that time,” he said.
Darell claimed that the decision to end the PDP model was made after the government at that time identified several problems that could affect the implementation of the Pan Borneo Sabah and Sarawak project.
According to him, Lim Guan Eng when serving as Finance Minister also raised concerns about ongoing problems if the model was kept.
He also referred to the Auditor General’s Report which he said contained findings related to weaknesses in project implementation.
Besides that, Darell claimed that competition for projects among contractors was also among the issues that had been raised through oral answers in Parliament.
He said the matter was also touched on by Kota Belud Member of Parliament, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.
Darell said the Pan Borneo implementation issue also received media coverage previously, but Warisan was still made the main target when questions arose about delays in the project.
In this regard, he urged all parties to examine the facts, government decision records and official reports before blaming any political party.
