MALAYSIA DAY 2026: UNITED IN DIVERSITY, SHARED IN PROSPERITY

By TAN SRI LEE LAM THYE, UNITY ADVOCATE

KOTA KINABALU: As we commemorate Malaysia Day on 16 September 2026, let us renew our commitment to the Malaysia we want to build — a nation that is united, peaceful, inclusive and prosperous for all.

Malaysia’s greatest strength has always been our diversity. Our different races, religions, cultures and backgrounds should never divide us. Instead, they should be a source of strength, mutual respect and national pride.

Today, we face many challenges — economic uncertainties, rising living costs, social divisions, misinformation and a rapidly changing world. These challenges demand that Malaysians stand together rather than allow differences to pull us apart.

Unity must be more than a slogan. It must be reflected in how we treat one another, how we resolve our differences and how we share the nation’s opportunities and responsibilities.

Prosperity, too, must be meaningful and inclusive. Economic growth should translate into better livelihoods, quality jobs, affordable living, safer communities and greater opportunities for every Malaysian — regardless of race, religion, region or background.

We must also ensure that no state or community feels left behind. Sabah and Sarawak, in particular, must continue to be full and equal partners in our Malaysian journey, while the wellbeing of every community across the Federation must remain a national priority.

The Government has a responsibility to govern with integrity, fairness and accountability. The people, too, have a responsibility to preserve harmony, respect the law, reject extremism and misinformation, and contribute positively to society.

Let us therefore make Malaysia Day a renewed pledge: that we will protect our unity, strengthen our social fabric and work together to build a prosperous Malaysia where no one is left behind.

Our diversity is our identity.

Our unity is our strength.

Our shared prosperity is our common destiny.

Selamat Hari Malaysia 2026.

May Malaysia continue to be a nation of peace, unity, dignity and prosperity for all.
