Warisan likely to team up with KDM, STAR to face GE

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan is in informal discussions with Sabah STAR and KDM to establish a coalition of local parties ahead of the upcoming general election, according to Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Warisan president confirmed that talks took place with Sabah STAR leader Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan and KDM chief Prescilla Peter.

A key point of discussion was the goal for local parties to contest all 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah.

Shafie emphasized the importance of uniting Sabah-based parties into a single political front before pursuing broader cooperation with Sarawak parties to form a Borneo-wide alliance.

He ruled out collaboration with federal-level parties in Sabah, warning such partnerships could weaken the focus on state-specific concerns, including rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, as well as healthcare, education, and oil revenue.

He added that any alliance should be shaped by the states’ resource contributions, not merely by the number of parliamentary seats held.
