KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Bera, is expected to be formally charged under the MACC Act today.
According to information from the court docket reviewed by BERNAMA, the charges will be presented at 9 AM before Judge Suzana Hussin.
The case is widely believed to center on allegations related to his asset declaration. Ismail Sabri had previously been called in several times by authorities for questioning over the assets he reported to the MACC.
As part of the ongoing investigation into suspected corruption and money laundering, the MACC confiscated approximately RM170 million in foreign currencies and 16 kilograms of gold bars valued at around RM7 million.
These items were seized during raids on properties and offices thought to function as a ‘safe house’ linked to the probe.
The raids were connected to the February 2025 detention of four senior aides associated with Ismail Sabri.
His legal representative, Ragunath Kesavan, confirmed to Bernama that the former Prime Minister will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.
