KOTA KINABALU: The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah & Sarawak), Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, announced that all relevant ministries and departments have been instructed to prioritize settling the remaining issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to speed up its full implementation.
He revealed that this directive emerged from the latest Technical Committee meeting of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), held today in Putrajaya.
Mustapha chaired the session in his capacity as representative of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, who is currently receiving medical treatment and serves as both Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the MTPMA63 Technical Committee.
Among the key progress highlighted was the increase in Sabah’s Special Grant under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution, which will rise to RM1.5 billion by 2026.
Additionally, Mustapha noted the official transfer of Bintulu Port’s status to the Sarawak State Government, scheduled for July 21, 2026.
“These milestones reflect how the Madani Government’s approach to MA63 not only honors past commitments but also adapts to the present-day expectations and needs of the people in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
