KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Hj Sapawi Hj Ahmad, President of the Islamic Organization of Sabah (USIA), has encouraged Muslims and the broader community to work together in shaping a new generation that is well-versed in technology, informed about global affairs, grounded in Islamic principles, and equipped with strong intellectual capabilities.
He highlighted that the modern world is navigating complex shifts—ranging from geopolitical instability and economic pressures to rapid advancements in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) —that are also influencing developments in Sabah.
Given these realities, he stressed the importance of moving beyond passive observation, urging people to actively understand global transformations and respond with insight and foresight.
“Building a society that can withstand future challenges requires a foundation of knowledge, unity, and strategic thinking,” he said.
Sapawi shared these views during his opening address at the State-Level Thinkers’ Discourse Program, held today at Wisma Muis.
The event was officially launched by Sabah’s Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Haji Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Since its founding in 1969, USIA has placed strong emphasis on education and religious outreach as essential tools for cultivating a morally sound, knowledgeable, and competitive community, Sapawi noted.
“While we cannot control international political dynamics, we can raise individuals who are resilient, value-driven, and equipped with a clear sense of identity to navigate any challenge,” he added.
He also extended appreciation to the Malaysian Academy of Nationality in Sabah, the Sabah State Government through TSKN 3 (Special Tasks), the USIA Southern West Coast Zone—covering Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar, Tuaran, and Tamparuli—the speakers, and the organizing team for their dedication to making the program a success.
