LAHAD DATU: The state government is continuously strengthening security measures in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone) through the use of advanced technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), to ensure stability, which is fundamental to Sabah’s economic growth.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that efforts to modernise security assets will be enhanced through the use of drones, radar, and big data analytics to bolster monitoring capabilities and expedite responses to any threats.
“In line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 framework, we want security agencies to empower the use of AI in operations so that our security systems are robust not only physically but also digitally,” he said.
He made these remarks while speaking at the SMJ Roadshow during the Chief Minister’s Security Survey Visit to the ESS Zone at the Dewan Perdana here on Wednesday.
Hajiji emphasised that security is a primary prerequisite for ensuring smooth economic development and attracting investor confidence to the state.
“Without a strong security guarantee, investor confidence will be undermined, economic activities will be hindered, and the well-being of the people will also be affected,” he said.
According to him, development in the ESS Zone will be carried out holistically, balancing the needs of security with economic and social development.
He noted that the maritime sector and the Blue Economy have been identified as new growth drivers under SMJ 2.0, encompassing modern fishing industries, marine tourism, and the development of coastal and border cities.
However, he stated that this significant potential can only be realised if the security of the state’s waters continues to be strengthened without compromise.
