Sabah govt to study proposal to revive barter trade between Sabah and the southern Philippines

SANDAKAN: The state government will conduct a comprehensive study on the proposal to revive barter trade between Sabah and the southern Philippines.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said although the proposal has garnered attention from various parties, a detailed study must be carried out before any decisions are made.

He emphasised that safety aspects and their impact on the state’s economy and local traders are priorities in this evaluation.

“We will study first. Many parties have provided suggestions regarding this matter, and all aspects will be considered, particularly safety and its benefits to our economy,” he said.

He made these remarks following a working visit to several islands housing security posts in the waters of Sandakan within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE).

Commenting on the visit, Hajiji noted that the readiness level of the security forces is in good condition, including the facilities at the control posts that have been improved.

He said that guaranteed safety plays a crucial role in stimulating economic activities, especially in the tourism sector on the east coast of Sabah.
