The co-curricular activities in sports also shape students’ character – Victor

TAMBUNAN: The development of students’ character relies not only on academics but also on co-curricular activities such as sports.

Deputy Chairman of Sawit Kinabalu Sdn Bhd, Datuk Victor Peter Paut, said sports is not merely a field to determine winners and losers.

“More than that, sports serve as a platform for character building, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These values will be essential for our children as they face life’s challenges in the future,” he remarked.

He made these comments when officiating the closing ceremony of the 56th St. Martin Tambunan Sports Day 2026, near here recently.

The event was also attended by the Principal of SM St. Martin Tambunan, school administrators, teachers, and parents.

Victor expressed his appreciation for the efforts of St. Martin Tambunan in enhancing the sports sector, which deserves ongoing support.

In this regard, he approved a donation of RM9,000 to the school. Of this amount, RM8,000 is allocated for sports development expenses, and RM1,000 is designated for the participation of the SM St. Martin Tambunan Choir Team in the 3rd Jesselton Choir Festival 2026.

He hopes that this contribution will be utilized effectively to improve sports facilities and support the development of student talents at the school.

“I believe that with better facilities, more students will have the opportunity to showcase their potential, not only at the school level but also at higher levels,” he added.

Victor, who is also the Chairman of the Sabah People’s Gagasan Party (PGRS) in Tambunan, expressed his highest appreciation and congratulations to St. Martin Tambunan, especially to the organizing committee, teachers, and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this year’s sports event a success.

He stated that organizing such events is not an easy task; however, due to the collaboration and commitment of all involved, it was held in a lively and organized manner.

“To the students, I would like to advise you to treat the experiences gained during this sports event as valuable lessons. Victory is not everything, and defeat is not the end.

“What matters more is the effort, fighting spirit, and determination to keep trying.

“Remember, success does not come easily. It requires sacrifice, continuous training, and a mindset that does not give up easily.

“If you do not succeed today, let it be a motivation to rise stronger in the future.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners in the various events that were contested. Your success is a result of hard work and high dedication.

“To those who did not succeed, do not lose hope; you are still remarkable for having the courage to try and face challenges,” he said.

Victor remarked that the sportsmanship displayed by the students, supporting each other, respecting opponents, and playing with integrity is truly impressive.

“This is the spirit we need to nurture and maintain,” he said, hoping that the sportsmanship cultivated will continue to thrive within each student.

He also advised the students to keep striving, be disciplined, and pursue their dreams. “Be a generation that excels not only academically but also stands out in character and leadership,” he said.

After the event, Victor took the time to attend two more events, including the presentation of contributions to Mr. Benjamin from Kg. Patau and attending a wedding reception at TVRC.
