SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sandakan detained two men suspected of attempting to misappropriate subsidised diesel at a petrol station in the city last Friday.
During an operation around 11:12 AM under Ops Tiris 4.0, enforcement officials discovered 120 liters of subsidised diesel stored in seven jerrycans in the back of a four-wheel drive vehicle.
KPDN stated that the total value of the seizure is estimated at RM70,258.
Initial inspections revealed that the two suspects, aged between 34 and 49, included one local and one foreign national, who did not possess the necessary permits or legal authorization to purchase the subsidized diesel.
According to KPDN, this operation was conducted following the implementation of new directives starting April 1, 2026, which mandates the control of subsidized diesel sales based on vehicle categories and specific quantity limits for each transaction in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
“This control aims to prevent the misuse or diversion of subsidized diesel priced at RM2.15 per liter,” the statement said.
The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961, and actions may also be taken against the petrol station operators if found to be involved.
