KOTA KINABALU: Sabah businessman Datuk Dexter Lau is the new president of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah Chapter after winning the post uncontested.
Previously, he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the MCCC Sabah Branch and was a member of the National Committee of MCCC Malaysia.
Dexter, the CEO of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC), expressed his aspiration that as the new President of MCCC, he would play a crucial role in strengthening economic and trade relations between Malaysia and China through his active involvement in MCCC.
“I will continue to strive to stimulate bilateral economic growth by ensuring that trade relations between the two countries continue to flourish.
“Additionally, I aim to create more business opportunities for local entrepreneurs. My experience as a businessman will certainly provide an advantage in attracting foreign investment.
“With a deep understanding of market needs, business strategies, and ways to connect with foreign investors, he can play a significant role in generating interest in foreign investment.
“This aligns with the direction of the GRS government under the leadership of Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, who aims to expand foreign investment involvement across various industries in the state,’ said Dexter during a press conference at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.
Later, while announcing the new MCCC committee members, Dexter said that Kapitan Dr. Tan Kai Lee was elected as deputy president during the election for MCCC’s 14th national council (2025-2028).
The three vice-presidents are Chin Thau Chung @ Jacky Chin, Su Khon Fen, and Lau Jiin Woei, with Ivan Chai Bor Yuan serving as secretary, Shawn Tan Cen Ven as treasurer, Tommy Lo Chun Sian as assistant treasurer, Brian Ho Joon Chuan handling trade affairs, Wong Kwong Fah as assistant trade affairs unit, and Goh Chuen Sheng as Public Relations officer, with an assistant in public relations.
