UMNO refutes allegations of orchestrating the revelation of corruption issues on various social media platforms—Awang Aslee

BEAUFORT: UMNO should not be implicated in the corruption allegations involving certain leaders in this state, which have recently gained traction across social media and print media.

Datuk Awang Aslee Lakat, the Beaufort Umno chief, stated that the issue gained momentum following a report from an online portal based in Kuala Lumpur, which claimed corruption involving certain leaders without specifying the state in question.

“If UMNO members have shared this statement on social media, it is merely a standard sharing that does not pertain to any party. Therefore, why should this matter be associated with UMNO?” he remarked in a statement released today.

Additionally, he noted that several online portals from Kuala Lumpur have published video footage featuring individuals connected to this case.

Citing the proverb “If there is no wind, how can the tree shake?” Awang emphasised that the viral matter should be referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for investigation if a report is filed.

“If it genuinely involves leaders in this state and there are reports, the authorities will certainly investigate and take legal action. We hope the authorities will address this issue with the seriousness it deserves,” he stated.

Awang further expressed the need for this state to be free from corruption, aligning with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to combat corruption in governance.

“I urge certain individuals in this state, particularly the hired cyber troopers from specific parties, not to associate UMNO as the mastermind behind the exposure of corruption cases, as this only serves to stir controversy with misleading statements and infographics linking UMNO leaders.”

“If the MACC concludes that there are no issues, then so be it. If they find something, appropriate action should be taken. It is important not to create perceptions until the investigation is complete,” he added.
